Covid-19 Watch: 5,330 new cases bring total number of infections in Malaysia to 4,692,800

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia detected 5,330 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday (Aug 3), bringing the total number of infections in the country to 4,692,800 since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 5,313 of Wednesday’s cases were local transmissions while there were 13 imported cases.

The portal also reported that 3,075 individuals recovered from Covid-19 infections on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,610,282 since the pandemic began.

According to data on CovidNow, there are currently 46,523 active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia, with 44,885 individuals, or 96.5%, observing home quarantine and 29 patients, or 0.1%, seeking treatment at quarantine and treatment centres nationwide.

There are 1,560, or 3.4% of active cases, Covid-19 patients being treated in hospital while 49 people have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU) nationwide.

Of those in ICU on Wednesday, 15 are unventilated while 34 require ventilator support.

Malaysia’s overall ICU utilisation rate stands at 62.8% with Covid-19 patients accounting for 13% of ICU utilisation nationwide.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that there were 10 deaths due to Covid-19 on Wednesday, including one classified as brought-in-dead.

Selangor and Perak recorded three deaths due to Covid-19 on Wednesday, while one fatality each was reported in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang.

This brings the total number of fatalities in the country due to Covid-19 to 35,995.
