Covid-19 Watch: 4,860 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 64.3pc

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 4,860 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (July 29), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,672,999 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 4,849 of Friday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while 11 imported infections were logged.

There were 3,836 recoveries on Friday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,588,743 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 48,300 active cases currently in the country, with 46,334, or 95.9%, observing home quarantine and 23 individuals admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centers.

The CovidNow portal reported that 1,943 patients, or 4.02% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 60, with 34 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 64.3%, with ten states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 81.6%, followed by Johor (75%), Selangor (73.8%), Labuan (71.4%), Putrajaya (70%), Kelantan (69.6%), Kuala Lumpur (67.4%), Perak (66.3%), Negri Sembilan (65.3%) and Sabah (63.8%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that ten Covid-19 deaths were reported on Friday with one classified as Brought in Dead (BID).

This brings the death toll to 35,956.
