JOHOR BAHRU: Perikatan Nasional’s extraordinary success was gaining world recognition as the best government in managing Covid-19 recovery efforts, according to Bersatu Supreme Council member Azmin Ali.
“Within a short period, the country was facing a health and economic crisis, but under the leadership of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PN successfully brought the country out of this crisis,” Bernama reported him as saying after attending a Chinese New Year dinner with representatives of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) here last night.
“The Nikkei Covid-19 Recovery Index ranked Malaysia 13th compared to 115th last year. We need to continue this success and I leave it to the rakyat to make the right decision in the Johor state elections.”
Yesterday, after 10,089 Covid-19 new cases were reported, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin warned that infections would breach the 15,000 mark again soon.
The last time Covid-19 cases exceeded the 15,000 mark was on Sept 18 last year when 15,549 infections were reported.
Azmin, who is also the international trade and industry minister, was asked about PN’s readiness to face the elections after Amanah and DAP announced some of their candidates while Barisan Nasional has launched its election machinery in several zones.
The Election Commission will meet on Wednesday to decide on the nomination and election dates. More than 2.5 million registered voters are eligible to vote in the elections expected to be held next month.
The Johor polls follow the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on Jan 22.
