19,057 Covid-19 Cases, 362 Deaths

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 19,057 Covid-19 cases and 362 deaths in the past 24 hours.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 1,824,439.

He said there were 21,582 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 1,550,254.

There are 256,302 active cases, with 978 patients being treated in intensive care and 460 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the 362 deaths take the number of fatalities to 17,883.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases, with 3,775.

This was followed by Sarawak (2,723), Sabah (2,279), Johor (2,077), Penang (1,558), Perak (1,450), Kelantan (1,434), Kedah (1,329), Kuala Lumpur (711), Terengganu (605), Pahang (410), Melaka (338), Negeri Sembilan (242), Perlis (99), Putrajaya (18) and Terengganu (9).

The infections reported in Perak and Perlis were a new high. The previous record was 1,390 recorded in Perak on Aug 25 and 98 in Perlis on Aug 28.

There were 19,047 local infections today, as well as 10 imported cases.

The 362 who died comprised 304 Malaysians and 58 foreigners. A total of 273 had existing medical conditions while 104 were brought in dead.

Selangor also reported the highest number of fatalities with 152, followed by Sabah (55), Johor (51), Kuala Lumpur (24), Kedah (20), Penang (19), Negeri Sembilan (13), Perak (9), Kelantan (7), Melaka (5), Pahang (3), Perlis (2), and Sarawak (2).

Noor Hisham also said that as of yesterday, the country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate stood at 0.96.

Sarawak recorded the highest R-nought level with 1.14, followed by Perlis (1.13), Johor (1.11), Terengganu (1.05), Sabah (1.04), Kelantan (1.03), Perak (1.02), Kedah (1.01), Pahang (1.00), Putrajaya (0.99), Selangor (0.98), Melaka (0.88), Negeri Sembilan (0.80) and Labuan (0).

About 98% or 18,652 cases are Category 1 and 2, while 12,937 new cases, or 67.9%, involved individuals who have not been vaccinated or completed their vaccinations.
