PUTRAJAYA: A total of 20,897 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the past 24 hours, up from 19,268 cases on Monday (Aug 30).
The country has recorded more than 20,000 cases daily from Aug 24-29, with the highest figure of 24,599 on Aug 26.
In a tweet on Monday, the Health Ministry said the total number of infections in Malaysia was now 1,746,254.
It also said of the 20,897 new cases, 20,896 were local infections while only one was an imported case.
Another 282 people succumbed to Covid-19, bringing the country’s death toll to 16,664.
It also said there were 18,465 recoveries for a total of 1,461,727 to date.
The number of active cases is now 267,863.
Of this number, 1,005 are in intensive care units (ICU), with 464 requiring ventilator support.
Selangor recorded the highest number with 4,371 cases, followed by Sabah (2,594); Sarawak (2,285); Johor (2,159); Kedah (1,942) and Penang (1,732).
Kelantan recorded 1,479 cases, followed by Perak (1,204); Kuala Lumpur (1,003); Pahang (798); Terengganu (608); Melaka (417) and Negri Sembilan (215).
Three states recorded fewer than 100 cases, namely Perlis (64); Putrajaya (25) and Labuan (one).
