KUCHING (May 26): Four new Covid-19 clusters have been declared by the State Health Department today, three of which were detected here and one in Saratok.
In a statement today, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said that the clusters here are the Kampung Semerah Padi Cluster, Jalan Sukma Cluster and Akedemi Semariang Cluster, and in Saratok, the Lubok Nitik Cluster.
It said that the Kampung Semerah Padi Cluster is a community cluster which was detected in Kampung Semerah Padi Phase 1 and that infections had spread through social movements among family members, colleagues and friends of the index case.
“The result of further investigation and active contact detection among family members and social contacts yielded 21 cases. Following the detection of the Kampung Semerah Padi Cluster, a total of 103 individuals were screened and all positive cases were admitted at the Kuching Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC),” added SDMC.
The Jalan Sukma Cluster is a workplace cluster involving a housing developer in Sukma Commercial Center, Jalan Sultan Tengah, Petra Jaya.
The index case, who is an employee of the company, had tested positive for Covid-19 following a symptomatic individual screening at a private hospital here on May 23.
“A total of 78 individuals connected to the Jalan Sukma Cluster were screened of which 10 cases were positive for Covid-19 including the index case and 65 cases are still awaiting laboratory results,” said SDMC.
As for the Akedemi Semariang Cluster, it involves a construction skills academy located at Jalan Sultan Tengah here.
The index case is a student of the academy who was detected through screening after going on a holiday on May 17 and was confirmed positive on May 18.
“A total of 70 individuals connected to the Akademi Semariang Cluster were screened of which 15 cases were tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case and 40 cases are still awaiting laboratory results,” said SDMC.
Saratok’s Lubok Nitik Cluster is also a workplace cluster involving offices and residential areas of employees of an oil palm plantation company in Lubok Nitik, Saratok.
The index case is a manager who was detected through screening of symptomatic individuals at Saratok Hospital on May 17 and was confirmed positive on May 19.
“Also detected positive were three friends to the Lubok Nitik Cluster index case who had also undergone screening on the same day. A total of 147 individuals connected to the cluster were screened and 15 cases were positive while 132 are still awaiting laboratory results,” said SDMC.
Meanwhile, SDMC said one Covid-19 infection cluster in the state, the Tabuan Melayu Cluster here, has ended as it had no new cases in the last 28 days.
It also said that the number of active clusters in the state is now 87 clusters with 14 of them recording a total of 95 new cases today.
