Covid-19: Record High of 45 Deaths, 20 Cases from Selangor

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia hit another record of Covid-19 deaths, with 45 fatalities reported on Monday (May 17), the highest ever single day tally since the pandemic began.

This brings the cumulative death toll to 1,947, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

The fatalities are between the ages of 36 and 90, with 20 cases from Selangor.

Malaysia also recorded 4,446 new infections, outpacing the 2,784 recoveries in the same 24-hour span.

There are 43,506 active cases, with 522 patients in ICU, and 273 of them on ventilator support.

Cumulatively, the country has 474,556 confirmed cases and 429,103 recoveries.

There were also 14 new clusters, seven of which are from the community.

Four clusters were linked to religious activities while another three were linked to workplace transmission.
