PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 2,776 Covid-19 cases and 13 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,803 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 369,556.
In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 395,718.
There are 24,713 active cases, with 300 patients being treated in intensive care and 133 needing respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, the 13 deaths take the number of fatalities to 1,449.
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases with 762. This was followed by Sarawak (615), Kelantan (343), Johor (309), Kuala Lumpur (254), Penang (123), Negeri Sembilan (112), Sabah (88), Perak (45), Kedah (39), Melaka (34), Pahang (34), Terengganu (9), Putrajaya (7) and Labuan (2).
Perlis did not record any new cases today.
The new cases today involved 2,773 local infections and three imported cases. Local cases comprised 2,383 Malaysians and 390 foreigners.
There were 17 cases from prisons today, namely the Kampung Selamat (16) and Pagar Sri Lalang (1) clusters.
The 13 deaths today involved 12 Malaysians and one foreigner, aged between 32 and 84. All of them had existing medical conditions.
800 more quarantine beds for serious cases
The quarantine and treatment centre in Serdang is to increase the number of beds for patients in Categories 3 and 4, the centre’s director, Dr Shahabuddin Ibrahim said today.
He said 800 more single beds will be provided specifically for treating critical category cases. The extra beds will reduce overcrowding at Sungai Buloh Hospital and Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Category 3 Covid-19 patients are those with pneumonia while Category 4 patients are those with pneumonia and who require oxygen.
Shahabuddin said the centre had treated more 78,000 patients so far with 2,400 still undergoing treatment.
