Covid-19: 1,889 New Cases Bring Total to 365,829

PUTRAJAYA: Covid-19 cases in Malaysia continued to rise, with 1,889 new infections recorded in the country on Wednesday (April 14).

A day before, the country recorded 1,767 new infections.

Six were imported infections, while the rest are local transmissions.

Cumulatively, the country’s total confirmed cases are now 365,829.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a Twitter post, said Selangor recorded the most cases with 517 new infections.

This is followed by Sarawak (487 cases) and Kelantan (226).

There were also eight new Covid-19 deaths, pushing Malaysia’s death toll up to 1,353.

In his daily Covid-19 updates, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said those who died were aged between 45 and 89.

Five of the deaths were in Sarawak, while the rest were in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.

“The ministry extends its condolences to the family members,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

There were 1,485 patients who were discharged from treatment, which takes the total number of Covid-19 recoveries to 347,780 (95.1%)

Active cases have now gone up to 16,696.

The number of patients in intensive care units (ICU) has gone up to 204 from 199 the previous day.

Of that total, 79 are currently on ventilator support.
