KUCHING: Sarawak continued to record three-digit positive Covid-19 cases with the latest figure standing at 385 today, said State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He said Sri Aman topped the list with 129 cases followed by Sibu (81), Bintulu (52), Miri (45), Kuching (22), Saratok (13), and Lubok Antu (10).
“Eleven districts recorded single-digit cases namely Marudi (6), Samarahan (5), Beluru (5), Asajaya (5), Pakan (3), Sebauh (2), Mukah (2), Limbang (2), Sarikei (1), Bukit Mabong (1), and Kanowit (1).
“The total number of positive cases in the state now stands at 18,164,” he told a press conference.
He said of the total cases, 128 were detected at Sri Aman Prison and linked to the Sri Aman Tembok Cluster.
“These cases consisted of a total of 122 detainees, four prison staff, and two family members of the staff,” he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister also gave a summary of the cases where 184 were detected from screenings of close contacts of positive cases; 168 which were detected from existing active clusters; 10 from symptomatic individuals screenings at health facilities; four cases involving individuals who had returned from China and Papua New Guinea; and one case involving an individual who returned from another state in the country.
“In Sri Aman, all of its cases involved the Sri Aman Tembok Cluster with the exception of one case which was detected from other screenings,” he said.
He said in Sibu, 24 cases were linked to four different clusters namely the Bulatan Aman Cluster (18), Jalan Maju Cluster (3), Jalan Sanyan Cluster (2), and Sungai Rassau Cluster (1).
“The district also recorded 48 cases from screenings of contacts to positive cases, two from screenings of symptomatic individuals, and seven from other screenings,” he added.
In Bintulu, 41 cases were detected from screenings of contacts of positive cases, four from screenings of symptomatic individuals, and two from surveillance at health facilities.
“Another three cases have been categorised as Import A cases and two were detected from other screenings,” said Uggah.
He said Miri’s 45 cases were largely traced from screenings of contacts of positive cases (31), while another four cases were from screenings of symptomatic individuals.
“The district also recorded 10 cases linked to existing clusters namely the Jalan Kingsway Cluster (6) and Lorong Desa Senadin Cluster (4),” he said.
Uggah said Kuching registered 17 cases from screenings of contacts of positive cases; two from other screenings; one from the Kampung Baru Hilir Cluster; as well as one Import A and Import B case.
“Saratok had 12 cases which were detected from screenings of contacts to positive cases and one from other screenings.
“In Lubok Antu, Marudi, Beluru, Asajaya, Pakan, Sebauh, Mukah, Bukit Mabong, and Sarikei, all cases recorded in these districts were all detected from screenings of contacts to positive cases,” he said.
He said Samarahan’s cases consisted of four from the Kampung Binyu Cluster, one from Kampung Baru Hilir Cluster, and one from other screenings, while Limbang and Kanowit’s cases were traced from other screenings as well.
On the recovery of Covid-19 patients, Uggah said 228 had recovered today of which 54 were discharged from Bintulu Hospital; 50 from Miri Hospital; 38 from Sibu Hospital; 31 from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH); 29 from the quarantine and low-risk patients treatment centre (PKRC) in Serian; 15 from Sarikei Hospital; five from PKRC under Kapit Hospital; three from the PKRC under Sri Aman Hospital; and three from the PKRC under Mukah Hospital.
“The total number of recoveries in the state has now increased to 14,929 or 82.19 per cent out of the overall cases,” he said.
He also said 3,061 patients were still being isolated and treated at hospitals and PKRCs throughout the state, where 649 were being treated at Sibu Hospital and PKRC; 492 at Miri Hospital and PKRC; 599 at Bintulu Hospital and PKRC; 386 at SGH and PKRC Kuching; 278 at Sri Aman Prison PKRC; 192 at Semuja Immigration Depo PKRC in Serian; 159 at Sarikei Hospital and PKRC; 112 at PKRC Serian; 65 at Kapit Hospital and PKRC; 54 at Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC; 40 at Betong Hospital and PKRC; 26 at PKRC Mukah; six at Limbang Hospital; and three at PKRC Lawas.
A total of 385 new person under investigation (PUI) cases were also reported with none pending lab test results.
The death toll in Sarawak remained unchanged at 114.
