Covid-19: Sarawak records 225 new cases today, no deaths

KUCHING (Apr 5): Sarawak recorded 225 new positive Covid-19 cases and no fatalities, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today.

This brought the cumulative total of positive cases to 17,779 cases, while the state’s death toll remains at 114.

“The districts that recorded new cases today are Bintulu District (43), Samarahan (43), Sibu (39), Miri (24), Julau (12), Sebauh (10), Kuching (7), Kapit (7), Sarikei (7), Beluru (7), Matu (6), Meradong (6), Saratok (5), Serian (3), Song (3), Lubok Antu (2) and Kanowit (1),” said SDMC.

Of the 225 new cases reported, a total of 32 have showed signs and experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 infection during the screening.

SDMC said that 190 of those new cases comprised individuals who have been given quarantine orders at designated quarantine centres.

From the new cases, 126 cases are results of screening individuals who had contact with positive cases, with 16 of them symptomatic.

Another 60 cases are individuals screened from currently active infection clusters, with one person symptomatic.

Meanwhile, 21 cases are from other screenings at healthcare centres, with one symptomatic.

Fourteen cases are from screening of symptomatic individuals at healthcare centres.

There are four imported cases, involving individuals returning from other states in the country.

Meanwhile, SDMC informed that there were 238 cases of recovery and discharge for the day.

“These cases were Bintulu Hospital (59), Miri Hospital (38), Sibu Hospital (48), Sarawak General Hospital (34), Sarikei Hospital (24), Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) in Serian (16), PKRC under Kapit Hospital (7), PKRC under Sri Aman Hospital (5), PKRC under Mukah Hospital (5) and PKRC Betong (2).

“As of today, 14,701 or 82.69 per cent of total cases have recovered and discharged,” it said.

SDMC said that a total of 2,904 cases are still being treated at hospitals and various PKRC throughout the state.

Out of that, 604 are in Sibu Hospital and PKRC in Sibu, 597 in Bintulu Hospital and PKRC in Bintulu, 487 in Miri Hospital and PKRC in Miri, 384 in SGH and PKRC in Kuching, 192 in PKRC Semuja Immigration Depo Serian, 170 in Sarikei Hospital and PKRC in Sarikei, 156 PKRC Sri Aman Prison, 141 in PKRC Serian, 69 in Kapit Hospital and PKRC in Kapit, 41 in Sri Aman Hospital and PKRC in Sri Aman, 29 in PKRC Mukah, 27 in Betong Hospital and PKRC in Betong, four in Limbang Hospital, and three in PKRC Lawas.

There were 225 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) reported for the day. This brought the cumulative total of PUIs to 30,531 to-date.

As for Person-Under-Surveillance (PUS), there were 466 individuals who have checked into designated quarantine centres for their compulsory quarantine Monday. This brings the total of current PUS to 6,156 individuals at 94 hotels and non-hotel quarantine centres state-wide.

To-date, those who have completed their quarantine period numbered at 83,722.
