PM’s Brunei Visit under Strict Covid-19 SOP

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s official visit to Brunei will observe strict adherence to Covid-19 preventive Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

The Foreign Ministry, in a statement yesterday, said given the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the prime minister had instructed for the duration of the official visit to be less than 24 hours.

To minimise risks, Muhyiddin will be accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman and a small delegation comprising Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and senior government officials.

“The official visit will also be subjected to strict Covid-19 preventive SOP as agreed upon by Malaysia’s Health Ministry, the National Security Council and Brunei’s Health Ministry.”

The ministry said Malaysian delegation was required to take a swab test before departing for Brunei and only individuals with negative test results within 72 hours were allowed to be part of the official visit.

They would also be required to undergo another swab test upon arrival at the airport in Brunei and those with negative test results verified by the relevant Bruneian authorities would be taken directly to their accommodation.

All members of the delegation would be flown by a special aircraft to create a travel bubble and prohibited from moving anywhere on their own except to designated areas of the official visit.

The ministry also said the Malaysian delegation would remain confined to their accommodation and designated areas of the official visit.

“Brunei is a green zone country where there had been zero locally-transmitted cases for over 250 days and the Brunei government has given their assurance that the official visit would be held under very strict Covid-19 preventive SOP,” it added.

Muhyiddin’s visit to Brunei, from April 4 to 5, is in conjunction with the 23rd Malaysia-Brunei Annual Leaders’ Consultation.

The official visit is also to honour the invitation extended by the Sultan of brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
