Two New Covid-19 Clusters Detected in Perak, Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR: Two new Covid-19 clusters have been identified in Perak and Sabah.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the first cluster, Batu Cluster, was detected in Taiping, Perak, following Covid-19 screening tests involving the detention camp staff and their relatives.

The cluster registered seven positive cases on Oct 5 and they have been admitted to at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Perak.

“As of noon Oct 6, 860 individuals have been screened for Covid-19; seven tested positive, 182 negative and 671 are still waiting for their results,” he said on a live streaming on Facebook.

The second, Ramai-Ramai Cluster, was detected in Sandakan, Sabah.

“The cluster’s index case (Case 12,161) is a bus driver identified with sore throat and fever on Sept 27.

“He was tested positive on Oct 3 and was admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for further treatment.

“Following that, close contact tracing has been done and as of Oct 6, 166 individuals have been screened.”

Out of the total, he said 20 tested positive, 146 individuals are still waiting for their results.

The source of infection for both clusters is still being investigated, he said.

Apart from the clusters, Dr Noor Hisham also noted seven other active Covid-19 clusters.

They are Tembok cluster with 394 new cases, Bangau-Bangau (30 new cases), Jalan Meru (15), Bah Sintok (3), Benteng PK (2), Selasih (one) and Embun (one).
