KUALA LUMPUR: A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected at a medical centre in Kedah.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the index case of the Sungai Cluster is a staff member at the medical centre who tested positive on Sept 5.
“Case 9,455 showed symptoms beginning Aug 30. However, the patient did not seek any treatment and tested positive after taking the Covid-19 test on Saturday.
“The second case of the cluster, case 9,456, is also a staff member from the same medical centre who had close contact with the index case.
“The patient displayed symptoms and immediately sought treatment at the workplace. A Covid-19 test was done and the result came back positive,” he said in a statement today.
He said the duo is now receiving treatment at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star.
Dr Noor Hisham said as of today, 57 individuals connected to the medical centre have been screened following active case detection and close contact tracing.
Two have tested positive while the rest are still awaiting results.
The two cases are among the 62 new Covid-19 cases recorded in Malaysia today, a spike from yesterday’s six.
The majority of the new cases are from the Sabah Benteng LD Cluster.
