Covid-19: Six New Cases, Death Toll Rises to 127 with Latest Fatality (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: A total of six new Covid-19 cases have been recorded, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 9,340 cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the six new cases, four were imported involving two Malaysians and two non-Malaysians.

The four imported cases were reported in Selangor.

Two locally-transmitted cases involved Malaysians from Kedah, one each from the Tawar and Telaga clusters.

“One Covid-19 related death was recorded in the past 24 hours, increasing the death toll to 127 or 1.36% out of the total number of cases,” he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 31).

“The death was of a 62-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of diabetes and high blood pressure, ” said Dr Noor Hisham, adding that he was from the Tawar cluster reported on Aug 13.

Dr Noor Hisham added that the man started coughing on Aug 11 and was admitted to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Kedah on Aug 13 after he tested positive for Covid-19.

“His health deteriorated and he required respiratory assistance since Aug 19. He died on at 10.35pm on Aug 30, ” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also said six Covid-19 patients were being treated in intensive care units, with four of them needing ventilator support.

“Six patients have recovered for a total of 9,054 patients or 97% of the overall number of cases since the Covid-19 outbreak began, ” he added.

There are currently 159 active cases being treated at the country’s health facilities.
