GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has urged all parties to stay calm and carry on their daily activities after new Covid-19 cases were reported in the state.
He said they should comply with the SOPs set by the government, including practising physical distancing and wearing face masks.
In a statement, Chow said the latest cases detected were from different clusters brought in from outside the state, namely the Sivagangga, Kurau and Tawar clusters.
He said the persons under investigation (PUI) were from different localities and districts in Seberang Perai Selatan, Seberang Perai Tengah, Barat Daya and Timur Laut.
Only the accident and emergency department will operate as usual, the hospital said.
A positive Covid-19 case was also reported in Teluk Kumbar on the southwest of the island.
Chow said the public and the private sectors must work together to ensure the SOPs are complied with, adding that no inaccurate or unverified information should be disseminated.
He said building owners may be held accountable if any customer enters their premises without following the guidelines.
He also said that any statement regarding daily positive cases in all states will be announced by the health director-general.
