Kuching Declared a Covid-19 Red Zone

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuching has been declared a Covid-19 red zone after four more coronavirus cases related to the Sentosa Hospital cluster here were detected today.

The hospital, on the outskirts of the city, was shuttered after the first few cases were confirmed, and all staff members were instructed to undergo quarantine inside the health facility.

“Four more cases detected for the Sentosa Cluster, bringing the total cases linked to the cluster to 20.

“This hospital has been closed to the public. All staff (of the hospital) would be quarantined at the hospital.

“Close contact tracing has been conducted and the process is still on-going,” said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on his official Facebook account today.

He said the ministry is waiting for the test results of 657 of 677 people linked to the cluster.

“Kuching in Sarawak has now turned into a (Covid-19) red zone,” he added.

During a press conference on Friday, Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also State Disaster Management Committee chairman, announced that Sentosa Hospital has been closed to the public.\
