Covid-19: Stern Action Against 255 Returnees if They Don’t Take Second Test, Says Ismail Sabri

PETALING JAYA: The 255 returnees who have not come forward to undergo their second Covid-19 test on the 13th day of their home quarantine have been told to do so immediately.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said stern action will be taken against them if they failed to do so.

“The Health Ministry and police were monitoring the individuals involved and tracking their location.

“We call upon them to come to the nearest government health clinic to undergo the second screening.

“Otherwise, police action will follow, including a RM1,000 compound or being charged in court and imprisonment for a maximum of two years if found guilty,” he said during the regular media briefing that was held at Parliament in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (July 14).

Ismail Sabri said the government took the failure to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) seriously, as an individual from Melaka who did not confine himself to a room during home quarantine had eventually infected his father.

He noted that a total of 17,689 Malaysians have returned to the country through the KL International Airport (KLIA) between June 10 and July 13.

“Of that number, 17,616 of them have been ordered to undergo home quarantine while another 73 have been admitted.

“On July 13 alone, 535 Malaysians returned with one of them being admitted at hospital,” he said.

He said Malaysians who wanted to return from abroad had to undergo a Covid-19 screening test three days before the departure date.

“This is to prevent them from facing any difficulties such as being barred to board the plane, as some airlines require passengers to show proof that they are Covid-19 free, ” he added.
